Tiny pieces of plastic, toxic chemicals that stay in the environment forever and climate change are all on the agenda for this year's State of the Waters Conference, an annual event put on by the Merrimack River Watershed Association. Letters to the Editor
October 31, 2020
Do you want to be represented by an open-minded and effective problem solver who has successfully taken on thorny issues ranging from sewage overflow in the Merrimack to garnering resources needed to open a senior center to providing essential goods to thousands of children in poverty? Whose values are grounded in her desire for fair and just economic and environmental policies to meet the needs of all people across the district? I do. That is why I am urging you to vote for Christina Eckert for State Representative...

This letter is to encourage any and all voters to choose Christina Eckert as our state representative in the 2nd Essex District. Christina is an intelligent, articulate, thoughtful and proven leader, someone who rolls up her sleeves and gets things done...

There is something about sending your child into the classroom, with their own specific quirks and needs, that raises a parent’s hopes and fears: Will they like school? Will they adjust? Will they learn? From the moment my children started school, I did everything I could to support their education. I became co-president of the PTO. I served as a substitute teacher. I co-founded the Masconomet Education Foundation, raising $400,000 to build STEAM Labs in the middle and high schools. I ran the Boxford Summer Park Program, keeping 450 elementary school kids healthy every summer, and employing 50 high school students...

Since I was a young girl, I've gazed up at the sky, looked out at the ocean, marveled at mountains, and walked through the woods. These natural places are sacred. They are bellwethers of our environment as a whole, and therefore, of our future as human beings on this Earth. This simple truth is one that I teach to my children and my young students, and one that I share with a candidate running for state representative in the 2nd Essex District...

I am voting for Christina Eckert for state representative for Massachusetts, and I urge other voters to vote for her too. Eckert listens to you, understands your needs and concerns, and acts to address them. She has the qualities I most value in a representative: experience; common sense; aligned with today's realities...

I have lived in Boxford for over 50 years. I raised my children here and I’ve been lucky enough to watch all my grandchildren grow up in the tri-town and attend Masconomet Regional High School. I’m a senior, I live at Four-Mile Village, and until COVID-19, I was very active with the Boxford Council on Aging. I am in a unique position to tell you why Christina Eckert is the best choice for state representative. Over the last 20 years I’ve watched her and felt her impact in town, and I am just amazed at all she has accomplished...

I enthusiastically support Christina Eckert’s candidacy for the 2nd Essex District. The first time I met Christina was during her campaign in 2018. I was impressed by her boundless energy, positive approach and caring attitude. During her first campaign, she walked from house to house in all seven towns, getting to know the voters and learning about their concerns. Christina is highly engaged and knowledgeable about many of the challenges and issues our district confronts...

I am writing in support of Christina Eckert, a candidate for representative from the 2nd Essex District. As a lifelong resident of Haverhill, and one who made the decision to raise my children here, I have found her to be a reliable presence in Haverhill over the past few years. Eckert's involvement with the Clean River Project has meant so much to me; the protection of the Merrimack River and other waterways is a very important issue, and she has been tireless in advocating for this...

I’ve known Christina Eckert for 13 years. We met in 2007 at her first Boxford school open house. I was quite involved with the PTO then and was always looking for good people to recruit to our board. As soon as I learned about her active involvement in her children’s former school, I didn’t hesitate to ask her to join. She not only joined, she became the new co-president and I never regretted my decision to recruit her. She embraced the role, co-leading and coordinating many successful PTO events and integrating seamlessly within the Boxford community...

Christina Eckert is running as the Democratic candidate for state representative for the 2nd Essex District. What first drew me to her candidacy was her passion for public service. If you live in Boxford, someone in your family has likely benefitted from one of the many outstanding community programs she has managed. For more than a decade, she organized programs and fundraisers running the gamut from education to safety for seniors to cleaning up the Merrimack River...

I am writing to encourage any and all voters who want to see real progress in solving the problems and issues in our towns and in our state to vote for Christina Eckert for state representative on Nov. 3. She is running for that office in the 2nd Essex District, which includes Newbury, West Newbury, Georgetown, Merrimac, Groveland, and parts of Haverhill and Boxford. I first got to know Christina well during her extremely close race in 2018. (She is an even stronger candidate now.) Through many interactions and much door knocking together, I found her to be an extraordinarily hard worker with the highest ethical standards, as well as bright, well-informed on all issues, focused and fully committed to working for the public good of all of us...

It is important for the citizens of Boxford, Georgetown, Groveland, Haverhill, Merrimac, Newbury and West Newbury, in the 2nd Essex District, to remember that we will also have an important state representative election in our district. Christina Eckert is the Democrat candidate; her opposition is a Republican. This state representative election is important because the Pandemic has caused real strains on state funding for each of our communities. There are 3 forms of state funding for towns...

Amidst all the misfortune literally plaguing us this year, we have the good fortune to have two well-qualified candidates running to represent Boxford in the State House. Tram Nguyen (D, 18th Essex District) is completing her first term on Beacon Hill, while Christina Eckert hopes to climb the stairs to the legislative chamber alongside her come January... Christina is running as a Democrat in the 2nd Essex District against incumbent Republican Lenny Mirra. Once elected, she will tackle many issues dear to us all, for which she has a proven track record of success...

This summer, tens of millions of our American neighbors joined peaceful protests against the obvious reality of systemic racism in this nation. I am proud to have participated in this outpouring of support, demanding equal justice and opportunity for every American. With temperatures cooling and November looming, we must remain vigilant. As a resident of the 2nd Essex District, I am voting for Christina Eckert for state representative...

Seven years, 103 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes and seven seconds. Earlier this month, the Metronome clock, a fixture in Manhattan’s Union Square, flashed this countdown to busy commuters and wide-eyed tourists passing under its giant display. For 20 years, the clock has merely marked time to and from midnight —an artistic curiosity. But today, its message is far more urgent...

Christina Eckert is fighting for women’s reproductive rights and control over our bodies. She is fighting for stricter laws to combat domestic violence and programs to help victims escape the cycle of abuse. She is fighting for comprehensive healthcare for people of all income levels. Planned Parenthood Action Fund recently endorsed Eckert, which shouldn’t surprise any of us who follow her work. For over 100 years, Planned Parenthood has provided affordable high-quality care for women, men and young people...

As a women and gender studies major at Simmons University, reproductive freedom is an issue that I have always been passionate about.
I find it incredibly frustrating to stand by and watch legislators put up unnecessary obstacles that strip away women’s rights. I was drawn to the Christina Eckert campaign for the 2nd Essex District state representative seat, in part because of her vocal support of the ROE Act. While Rep. Lenny Mirra is on record opposing the ROE Act, Christina believes reproductive freedom is a nonnegotiable human right...

Politics has never been a haven for the timid. Policy differences, no matter how inconsequential, are mercilessly exploited. Past transgressions, real and imagined, are dredged up. Unflattering personal characterizations are as common as greenhead flies in summer. We, the voters, are left to sift through the onslaught with the hope we can discern who is a worthy candidate. But every now and then, a candidate arises who chooses integrity over expediency, understanding that how a campaign is conducted is not only a demonstration of political philosophy, but also a revelation of character...

In the noisy political world we live in, it’s easy to forget what elections are all about: Who is the best leader for their constituents? Christina Eckert, running for state representative in the 2nd Essex District, is the right person for our community—especially for our working neighbors. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all been hearing a lot about “essential workers.” The working men and women of the 2nd Essex have always deserved our support, which means protecting their hard-earned rights...

Christina Eckert is a champion of women’s rights and LGBTQI+ rights. She grew up in the '60s and '70s, watching the women around her fight for the rights most of us enjoy today. She saw our elders, mentors and other pioneers of women’s liberation fight for their civil rights and for equity. And we are still fighting today, in large part because women’s rights and LGBTQI+ rights aren’t a priority for status quo politicians...

Commitment to excellence in civic responsibility wherever there is a need, Christina Eckert’s definition of community does not stop at her district or home-town lines. Quite frequently you will find her, family in tow, crossing those lines with donations and volunteer help campaign season or not. Without fanfare or the need for gratitude. She understands that a community extends outward and is constantly reaching that way…she is one of the helpers and an example of great leadership...

The best leaders can never be found in the throne room. They are the first in, the hardest working on the job and the last out the door. Approachable and with a point of view that does an end-run around their ego, they are not afraid to get dirty. This has been my definition of good leadership since I met Christina Eckert in a volunteer capacity working to advocate for, clean and maintain the Merrimack River. In our fast-developing friendship, I found strength, honesty, fortitude and fierce loyalty difficult to find so quickly...

Christina Eckert, candidate for State Representative at 2nd Essex District, has our endorsement. For the past two years, we have known her as a tireless advocate for the Merrimack River. Eckert’s outreach to local leaders and collaboration with the Massachusetts Rivers Alliance contributed to the recent passage of the Sewage Overflow Notification Bill in the state House of Representatives, an important step to ensure local communities know when sewage is released into the Merrimack... The truth about gun violence in America is difficult to hear: 40,000 gun deaths each year and over 100 gun deaths each day; 53 women shot and killed by an intimate partner every month; a gun suicide rate 10 times that of other high-income countries; firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens (ages 0 to 19); 58% of American adults or someone they care for have experienced gun violence in their lifetime... In the wake of the 2018 Parkland shooting tragedy, many of my peers organized and voiced the need for common sense gun legislation. I support Christina Eckert for state representative of the 2nd Essex District because she will fight to protect my rights as a woman. Under a current administration where female rights are constantly being debated by mainly white males, it seems as though I have no control over my own body, and reproductive rights specifically. Therefore, I support leaders who actively advocate for women, and Christina is exactly that candidate... CONTINUE READING
